Bilbray Praises Supreme Court on Fence Decision

Date: June 25, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA), Chairman of the Immigration Reform Caucus, released the following statement in response to yesterday's decision by the Supreme Court that it will not hear arguments from activists who claim that completing the border fence along the U.S.-Mexico border will do environmental damage:

"The High Court's decision sends a crystal clear message that nothing is more important than the safety and security of the American people."

"What some people still don't understand is that illegal immigration itself does great environmental harm. Whether it's groups of immigrants trampling through sensitive habitat areas or smugglers driving over rare plant species, significant environmental damage is done every day along the border. Completing this fence will not only reduce the flow of illegal immigration and the likelihood that foreign terrorists will enter our country, it will lessen the destruction being done to the environment."

"I applaud the Supreme Court for allowing the border fence to be completed."
